Steering Committee Meetings
The City of Flint convenes a Master Plan Steering Committee meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm. These meetings are open to the public. A list of upcoming Master Plan Steering Committee meetings is provided here:

  • Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - Flint Institute of Arts - Main Meeting Room, 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, December 4, 2012 - Flint Public Library - Basement, 5:30 p.m.

Community Workshops - Nov. 15, Nov. 28 & Dec. 13, 2012
Three (3) community workshops will be held, representing the first of several face-to-face community outreach events scheduled throughout the planning process. The purpose of these first set of workshops is to allow residents to share their thoughts as part of the engagement process leading up to a citywide summit to set the vision and framework for the Master Plan. The workshops will: (a) review the purpose of the Master Plan, the planning process to be undertaken, and the schedule for the Plan; and (b) hear resident’s views on problems, issues and assets within the City and our neighborhoods.

Business Workshop - Dec. 13, 2012
A business workshop will focus on input of this important stakeholder group. The business workshop will help establish a dialogue and obtain feedback from those members of the development and business community that have a unique insight and perspective, and whose assistance and involvement is crucial to the Plan’s ultimate success.

Visioning Workshops - TBD
A series of three (3) Community Visioning Workshops will be conducted, bringing together a representative group of citizens and community leaders to engage in a serious dialogue about Flint's future in order to create a shared vision and framework for a sustainable Flint. The Community Visioning Workshop will engage participants in an interactive discussion to develop alternative concepts and community visions, comment on and prioritize ideas and aspirations, and collectively formulate the Vision for the Flint Master Plan.

Advisory Groups
Master Plan Steering Committee Advisory Groups have been formed to enable additional residents and community stakeholders to provide more focused recommendations around specific components of the Master Plan. 6 groups have been formed, focusing on main components of the Master Plan. Meeting dates for these groups can be found on the event calendar.

Plan Approval

In addition to the meetings listed above, public meetings will be held throughout the Master Plan's approval process. For more information on Plan Approval, visit the About the Plan page which includes information pertaining to the City's Charter as well as the Michigan Planning Enabling Act (Act 33 of 2008). Meetings anticipated as part of the Plan approval process are described below.

Final Plan Report to the Planning Commission (Public Hearing) - TBD
The Steering Committee’s recommended Master Plan report will be presented for public hearing. Based on review and discussion, and based on public feedback during the public hearing, a revised Master Plan will be prepared for recommendation to the City Council.

Final Plan Report to City Council - TBD
The Plan Commission recommended Master Plan report will be presented to the City Council for consideration and adoption. Based on feedback, a Final Master Plan will be submitted for adoption.
